English for Diplomacy: How to write an essay on international relations

A lot of what follows is only partly relevant since the writers are often referring to assignments and long essays (dissertations) rather than exam essays. However, some of the ideas about planning, structuring and finally writing your essay may be useful. Several suggest that you may need to leave writing your introduction until you have already developed your main ideas and conclusion. However, these are only guidelines. Try reading some essays on international relations and examining how the best ones are structured.
