and a few points:

In 2025, Italy's work with the UN Human Rights Council centers on its upcoming 2026-2028 membership and its Fourth Universal Periodic Review (UPR), with key priorities including combating discrimination, protecting vulnerable groups, and addressing human trafficking. Italy also launched its First National Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security and prepared for a new National Strategic Plan 2025–2027 focused on protecting women from violence.

Some key initiatives and plans for 2025 and beyond

Universal Periodic Review (UPR):

Italy's human rights record was reviewed on January 20, 2025, during the fourth UPR cycle.

Italy accepted 295 out of 340 recommendations, with others noted or partially noted.

A training session for AICS personnel was held in March 2025 to focus on the UPR process and its role in advancing global human rights standards, say www.aics.gov.it

National Strategic Plan 2025–2027:

This plan was developed to implement protection and empowerment measures for women who are victims of violence.

First National Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security:

Italy's youth delegates participated in the 60th session of the Human Rights Council in September 2025, reaffirming their commitment to this plan to enhance youth participation in building peaceful societies.

Fifth National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security 2025–2029:

This plan was published, continuing efforts for the protection of women's rights.

Candidacy for the UN Human Rights Council:

Italy was elected for the 2026–2028 term in October 2025.

Key priorities for its membership include: fighting all forms of discrimination, protecting the rights of children, older persons, and persons with disabilities, and defending freedom of expression.

The country will continue to combat human trafficking with a victim-centered, human rights-based approach.

Italy supports the promotion of cultural and religious heritage and advocates for the protection of human rights defenders.
